aw, dresden dolls band love. brian just emailed me this picture….it’s the flyer i made for our first record release party, september 26, 2003 at the paradise in boston. CRAZYPANTS. ten years. we put so many bloods and sweats and tears and borrowed moneys into that record…and i don’t regret a single fucking note of it. i still think it’s one of the best recordings we’ve done.
this release party was long before we signed with roadrunner records, who re-released it under their distro system about a year and change after this. this was back in the days when i was managing the band, we were touring out of a volvo (yes, the drums AND the piano AND the merch all managed to fit in the back of the car - brian was a gear tetris MASTER), and we’d barely played a show outside of new england or new york.
if you’ve never heard the record, you should. it’s got some slamming songs on it (“girl anachronism”, “missed me”, “half jack”, the one that got us on the AMERICAN RADIO back when that was possible, “coin-operated boy”, and “truce” which is my favorite relationship-break-up-meets-9/11 song ever)…and bear in mind that downloading on itunes does us no good, as the band will never see any profit (we never recouped our advance, and never will).
you can stream it HERE at bandcamp…
OR you can find it at some swashbuckling-like hangout.
music. it’s what’s for dinner.
